St. Paul’s United Church is a dynamic and thriving community
church with a congregation of 417 members. The focus of the church
has always reflected the community and its needs.
The community of Bowmanville has begun to grow and expand with
a large number of young families and young adults. This population
growth has been reflected in the congregation, with the median
age lowering each year.
The Sunday school classes, and other child-related groups within
the church, are increasing in numbers at a rapid pace. That is
not to say there is not a solid foundation of long-time members.
There is a low turnover rate and families, which have joined the
congregation, have remained members for many years.
The Mission, Service and Outreach committee has helped raise
more than $52,000 over the past year for United Church sponsored
programs around the world as well as locally-supported food banks,
shelters for men and women, local hospitals and other community
organizations. The assistance is not only financial, as pastoral
care within the church plays a large role in how the community
is served.
St. Paul’s United Church is also blessed with a Parish Nursing
program. The Parish Nurse and the supporting Health Cabinet have
become an integral part of the identity and focus of St. Paul’s
United Church. The Parish Nurse assists with the healing of body
and mind as well as the spiritual soul of the congregation, individually
and within groups. The Health Cabinet and the Parish Nurse have
worked on numerous projects and have offered seminars on depression,
bereavement and CPR to name a few.
In summary, St. Paul’s United Church is a welcoming and engaging
congregation that looks to serve the local and global community.
The members are active, and spirituality and faith are strong.
As the community continues to flourish, so do we.
