I enjoy snooping around the websites of other congregations
to see how they describe themselves and their life together.
I wish I could remember which one included the three simple
phrases listed above. I would like to believe that they
fit St. Paul’s United Church in Bowmanville well.
Rich Traditions
This congregation has been around a long time in a community
that has a pleasant history. We do a fairly good job of
honouring our past in a number of ways, including the maintenance
of our traditional red-brick sanctuary in the heart of the
town. We are also “people of the book,” doing
our best to be faithful to the biblical tradition of Christian
community.
Honest Questions
St. Paul’s is not stuck in the past. We are willing
to go beyond the conventional to consider what it means
to be Christ’s people today. We are a lively bunch,
with varying opinions on just about any subject. We trust
that the Holy Spirit is at work in our midst to help us
address our faith questions and even come up with some meaningful
answers.
Shared Experience
This is a congregation that worships together, prays together,
laughs and cries together and is always ready and willing
to eat together! People comment on the warmth and friendliness
of this church family from the first visit. And when care
and concern is needed, St. Paul’s folk come through.
We would be delighted if you came to find out if all this
is true. Whether it is a “tire-kicking visit on Sunday
morning or a phone-call or email to our staff, we would
be glad to hear from you.
Blessings,
